Book presentation
On 18 April, Josep Borrell Fontelles, the President of the European Parliament's Committee on Development and ex-president of the European Parliament, will be presenting the book "Europe at the Crossroads", of which he is the coordinator. The presentation will take place at 12:30h in the Europa Hall, the headquarters of the European Institutions in Barcelona, and will be presided over by the journalist Lluís Foix. Also participating will be Narcís Serra, President of the CIDOB Foundation.
The book analyses the European Union’s current situation and the challenges that it faces. The volume, which is published by the Cajamar Foundation, deals with the main political, economic and social changes that Europe has experienced in recent years, in addition to the new challenges to be faced in the future. The importance of such changes and challenges explains why the EU currently finds itself at a crossroads. Some of the subjects covered in the publication include: the frustrated European Constitution project, immigration, energy and its links with demographics and the environment, Turkey's candidacy for EU membership and social Europe. "Europe at the Crossroads" has been created in collaboration with names such as the Euro MPs Enrique Barón (PSE) and Íñigo Méndez de Vigo (PPE), the EU Secretary of State, Alberto Navarro, the European commissioners Joaquín Almunia, Franco Frattini and Andris Piebalgs and the Secretary General of UGT, Cándido Méndez, in addition to the ex-president of the European Commission, Jacques Delors.
