Presentation of publication
The aim of this book is to employ different methodological perspectives to examine the uncertainties surrounding the Lisbon Treaty. Whatever the result of a hypothetical second referendum in Ireland and the formal ratifications of in certain Member States, the European Union will not be the same after the process of Treaty ratification. If it does come into force, Europeans will enter a new phase of integration; if it is rejected, the first decade of the new century will represent a new chapter of institutional paralysis. Despite this situation, the different chapters of this book all agree that even if we take its limitations into account, the Treaty will make the decision-making process more efficient, as well as enriching regional democracy and strengthening the EU's international voice.
