Round Table
2007 has been a year of hightened tensions, in an already convulsed area as is the Middle East (ensuing Arab-Israeli conflict, internecine Palestinian strife, looming Turkish military incursion in Northern Iraq, etc.). However, a window of opportunity seems to have been opened for dealing more constructively with these crises. A good example for this is the holding of a regional peace conference in Annapolis at the end of November. This Round Table will analyze the events which have influenced the evolving situation in the region and will reflect on the perspectives for peace or conflict during the coming year, in Iraq and the Middle East. For this we will count on the presence of Joan Roura, deputy director of the international desk at TV-3, Jaume Saura, Professor of International Law at Barcelona University, Eduard Soler, Coordinator of the Mediterranean Program at CIDOB Foundation, and Elvira Sánchez, Professor of International Relations at IBEI. The round table shall be directed by Albert Moreno, advisor on international affairs to the Department of the Presidency of the Generalitat, who previously was under-director-general for the Middle East at the Spanish ministry of External Affairs.
