For the fifth time, experts of different origins and from different disciplines, civilians and military personnel, and governmental and non-governmental actors are meeting in Barcelona to assess the progress made in security and defence in the Mediterranean and to analyse the great challenges for the future.

This course aims to provide participants with basic knowledge of the social, economic and political structures and the cultures and ideologies of two of the most important countries and cultures in the geopolitical area of Asia, and sufficient capacity for theoretical and empirical analysis to approach the politics of the Asian countries, their current problems and their relationships in the economic and social context of the region. It also aims to detect the key processes that configure the Asian regional space and to form competent professionals in the field of advising public institutions and private companies with interests in Asia.

El 14 de julio de 2006 Polonia marcó un registro político sin precedentes conocidos en la historia con la asunción como primer ministro de Jaroslaw Kaczynski, cuatro días después de ser nombrado para el puesto por su propio hermano y gemelo, Lech Kaczynski, a la sazón presidente de la República desde diciembre de 2005. Esta insólita situación, a la que, fuera de las acusaciones de intransigencia, se ha llegado por mecanismos estrictamente democráticos, arroja más incertidumbre, dentro y fuera de Polonia, a la ya suscitada por la agenda política del partido de derecha tradicionalista fundado por los hermanos y ahora presidido por Jaroslaw, Ley y Justicia (PiS), el cual gobierna en inestable coalición con unos socios ultranacionalistas y agrarios de marcado euroescepticismo.

Suecia - Primer ministro
En Suecia, 12 años de gobiernos socialdemócratas tocaron a su fin el 6 de octubre de 2006 con la asunción de Fredrik Reinfeldt como primer ministro de un Gobierno de mayoría integrado por los cuatro partidos de la centroderechista Alianza por Suecia, vencedora en las elecciones generales del 17 de septiembre. La clave del éxito de quien en 2003 se convirtió con 38 años en el líder del Partido Moderado, de ideología conservadora liberal, y devolvió a sus correligionarios la ilusión perdida tras el batacazo electoral de 2002, se halla en un programa renovado y orientado al centro en el que la anterior pretensión de cercenar el avanzado aunque dispendioso Estado del bienestar sueco, lo que es rechazado por el grueso de la población, ha sido sustituida por la promesa de preservar este modelo de protección social, pero orientándolo al aumento de la actividad laboral.
